Some additional sticker shock for in-bound, wanna-be BC residents
...Automobile insurance (it's government run) is about $100 per month for a fairly new car if the driver has a five-year safe driving record and he gets the 40-per-cent discount. That's $100 per month per car, as there are no multiple-car family discounts. That's $3,600 for three cars.
...Mandatory provincial medical/hospital is free if you make less than $24,000 a year. Above that, it's $102 per month for a couple, and $57 for the sister. That's $1,908 per year. Employers may provide coverage, but it's reflected in wages.
...Natural gas rates are brutal, with $40 bucks worth of gas having $50 worth of basic, delivery and other charges added on. Hydro is about the same in both provinces.
...Gasoline in Waterloo today seems to be about 98 cents. It's about $1.07 in Vancouver, and $1.06 in Victoria.
