Hi there,
I can't disagree with any of what has been put forward to you at this point on this post. Instead I'll give you the same advice my husband and I followed and have since passed on ourselves to others who were on the fence about making the leap.
We moved from Ottawa almost exactly 2 years ago on a calculated whim for a better life for ourselves and our children. While the first year was stressful as h*ll, it was well worth the jump. My hubby first went to the mainland and found that the poverty and the shear size of Vancouver were too much, so he came over to the 'island' and decided then and there that this is where we would 'leap to'. The piece of advice we followed was : "love where you live, everything else will fall into place as you need it to...." This doesn't mean that things will be easy for you, but the smaller communities are all warm hearted and welcoming to newcomers. There is a wonderful mix of natural born and raised BC'ers and those like us who moved to 'start anew'.
Yes it's more expensive here overall than back in Ontario, but what you get for it is peace of mind, heart and soul and at the end of the day, it's that what we all seek?
Yes do your research, but don't let it stop you either..Good luck with your decision.
