Englishman River, Central Vancouver Island, British Columbia

This small stream flows northeast from the Mount Arrowsmith area, and crosses Highway 19 at Parksville. The Alberni Bypass route (to Highway 4) crosses the river and provides angler access to some productive waters.

Access to the fishable portion of the Englishman River may also be gained via logging road off the end of Allsbrook Road (off Highway 4, west of Parksville), or by the paved road to Englishman River Falls Provincial Park on the northwest side. On either route, a car is adequate. The fishable length of the Englishman River is approximately 10km, and pressure is seasonally heavy, due to its easy accessibilty.

In addition to steelhead, small numbers of sea-run cutthroat trout are also present. A few jack coho are caught in the fall, but salmon numbers tend to be low for most species. Fishing in the Englishman River estuary is good for cutthroat trout.

Fishing is enhanced by hatchery stocking programs.
