The Sooke River
is a small stream flowing south from Sooke Lake into the ocean at
Sooke Basin.
The river crosses Highway 14 approximately 30km southwest
of Victoria.
Fishable length of the Sooke River is 5km, with good
paved access from the road to Sooke Potholes Provincial
Park, along the east side of the river.
Fishing pressure
is moderate, but the numbers of steelhead are expected to increase
due to regular hatchery releases. The Sooke River supports cutthroat
trout and fall runs of chinook and coho salmon. Flyfishing for chum
salmon is excellent in the estuary and lower reaches of the river.
