Premier Listings for Fintry Provincial Park

Fintry Provincial Park is a getaway with a historical flavour. Located on the west side of the Okanagan Lake, its site was the transportation hub of the valley; Hudson’s Bay Company fur brigade traders passed through here.

Easy walking through the park will bring you to the waterfalls and deep pools of Shorts Creek, as well as a suspension bridge and the remains of irrigation and power generation structures. Other features from the past are a ferry wharf from which freight boats operated, and a preserved Manor house, caretakers’ house, and several barns.

The park contains two very different ecosystems – a lush delta area and a forested area of ridges and steep slopes. The delta area, which empties into the Okanagan Lake, features over two kilometres of sandy/pebble beaches and large grassy areas with sparse vegetation.

With almost two kilometres of waterfront property, the park has opportunities for camping, swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, hiking and wildlife viewing. There is a sunken barge reportedly offshore of the park. An existing diving site is located across from Fintry on the east side of Okanagan Lake. The Okanagan Lake contains carp, burbot, kokanee, whitefish and large rainbow trout. There is no boat launch in the park, but there is small craft boat launch just one kilometre outside the park. Mooring buoys are present on the eastern edge of the beach in front of the old campground.

The campground consists of 100 sites. These sites are reservable between May 16 and Sept 4 and the park is open from April 1 to Oct 31 after which the gate to the campground is locked. The campsites are arranged in two areas that differ dramatically in landscape. There are two yurts available, located near the water (sites 40/41) and can be reserved by phone only through Discover Camping.

In adition to the campsites there is an amphitheatre on the lawn north of the Manor House. During special events, interpretive tours of the Manor House are given. The day-use beach area is accessed from the new campground. There is a paved parking lot a short distance along a wide gravel trail from the coarse sand beach beside the Packing House. There are tables and a pit toilet near the beach and the swimming area is marked with buoys. The beach extends past the Packing House and around the point.

The 360-hectare Fintry Provincial Park is located on the western shores of Okanagan Lake off Highway 97 on Fintry Delta Road. The park is 32 km north of Kelowna and 54km south of Vernon. Access is also possible by boat: 6 km across Okanagan Lake from Ellison Provincial Park and 6 km across the lake from Kopje Regional District Park in Lake Country.
