Charlie Lake Provincial Park, on the west side of Charlie Lake, is located just north of Fort St. John on the Alaska Highway, one of the longest, loneliest stretches of road you’ll ever have the pleasure of driving. That’s why there are places to pull off and rest, such as Charlie Lake Provincial Park and Beatton Provincial Park on the east side of Charlie Lake.

In the far north, lakes may be either too shallow or too deep, and fish stocks don’t do well. Shallow water freezes solid in winter, while deeper lakes never really warm up in summer, stunting fish growth. With that said, there are fish beyond count in these waters, both wild and introduced. Walleye, northern pike and yellow perch are found here, and there are boat launches at Beatton and Charlie Lake Provincial Park.

The park contains 58 vehicle/tent campsites and basic facilities – picnic tables, pit toilets, fire pits, firewood and water. The campground also has a day-use/picnic area, a sani-station, a boat launch, a playing field, some horseshoe pits, a children’s playground and scheduled interpretation programs. The campground is open from May to September.

Charlie Lake is located 10km north of Fort St. John at Mile 43 of the Alaska Highway.
