High Lakes Basin Provincial Park is 560 hectares of wilderness on the Nehalliston Plateau containing a chain of medium-sized lakes. The area was once part of a native trail network that connected Lac des Roches to the North Thompson Valley. Surrounding forests consist of Englemann spruce and sub-alpine fir.
Fishing is possible in the park’s lakes, which contain stocks of wild trout. Other recreational activities include canoeing and kayaking. There are no boat launching facilities provided, or cart-accessible trails into the park, so canoes and kayaks must be carried.
There are no camping or day-use/picnic facilities provided at the park, but wilderness camping in primitive user-maintained camping areas is permitted. Campers should practice ‘no trace’ camping and pack out all garbage when leaving the park. Visitors must be self-sufficient and should advise a responsible adult of their intended destination and anticipated time of return.
High Lakes Basin Provincial Park is located southwest of Clearwater, 10 miles (16 km) west of Little Fort and 1.5 miles (2.5 km) north of Caverhill Lake on the Nehalliston Plateau. Access is by foot or horseback only, via a primitive trail off the Machete Creek Forest Access Road.
