Revelstoke is the hub for a number of excellent paved secondary roads, and home to some fine out-and-back road tours. A hill climber’s dream follows Highway 23N past the Revelstoke Dam, along Lake Revelstoke, up and over the 300 metre (1,000 foot) elevation gain of Jackass Pass, then down to Carnes Creek. A rollicking, rolling ride follows Highway 23S to the Galena Bay ferry. Going halfway to Blanket Creek is a good option. For an easy cruise with ornithological-oriented wetland views, head to the end of the pavement along Airport Way. Don’t forget to jump into Williamson Lake to cool off.

With vistas galore, twisty-turny curves, challenging ascents and thrilling downhills, Kaslo and New Denver are becoming famous for their road riding routes. Highways circumnavigate idyllic tracks of wilderness, while boasting beautiful rest stops, ample accommodation in the way of historic hotels, charming B&Bs and well-kept campgrounds. There are also hot springs at Ainsworth, Nakusp and Halcyon Hot Springs. Those looking for a committing multi-day adventure into one of the Kootenay Rockies most remote road-riding regions, northward journeys into the Lardeau and Duncan Ranges are becoming increasingly travelled among the all-road touring sect.

Blessed with some of the most stunning highway loops in British Columbia, keen road cyclists will enjoy the proximity of Nelson to a number of challenging rides on off-track highways and winding mountain roads, over high passes and through quaint townships. Each ride rewards with long views of snowcapped mountains and forests that go on forever.

For visitors to Rossland, there is excellent road touring out of Trail, just 10km/6mi from Rossland. Road cyclists will enjoy scenic mountain loops as well as tranquil riverside routes through farmland and forest.
