Kootenay Bay is a small lakeside resort community located in the Creston Valley, along the eastern shore of Kootenay Lake.
Although Kootenay Bay is located in what was once a rich mining area, the town itself was never a mining camp.
Location: Kootenay Bay is located on Highway 3A on the eastern shore of Kootenay Lake, and serves as the eastern terminal of the Kootenay Lake ferry, connecting with Balfour on the western shore, and Nelson to the southwest.

Hiking: Take a Hike on the East Shore, along one of the many area trails; The Waterfront Trail in Riondel follows 1.5 km of the lakeshore from the south end of North Bay beach; The Pebble Beach Trail 7 km north of Riondel leads from the Kootenay Lake East FS Road to a south-facing, pebbled beach; The 15-minute Pilot Bay Lighthouse Trail near Kootenay Bay leads to an historic 1907 lighthouse; The one-hour Pilot Bay Marine Park trail leads through varying terrain as it follows the lakeshore; The Plaid Lake Hiking Trail near Crawford Bay is a full day hike to the alpine Plaid Lake on the west side of the Purcell Mountains; The Duck Lakes Dykes Trail further south near Sirdar offers miles of almost level hiking through some of the richest waterfowl habitat in BC.
Golf: In nearby Crawford Bay is Kokanee Springs Golf Resort, one of Canada’s finest championship 18-hole golf courses (5,747 yards). Considered by many to be the flagship of Kootenay golf courses, this graceful track resides in a magnificent mountain setting on Kootenay Lake. Every hole is framed by spectacular panoramic views of the Kokanee Glacier and surrounding area. Kokanee Springs is a Norman Woods original, characterized by its long driving fairways, immense rolling greens, immaculate course upkeep, and ability to interest and challenge golfers at all levels. Golfers can also head to the 9-hole public Riondel Golf Club in Riondel, or Balfour Golf Course and Eagleview Golf Course in Balfour, on the western shore of Kootenay Lake.
