The Butchart Gardens
Located in Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island, The Butchart Gardens has captivated visitors for over 120 years with its world‑class floral displays, spanning some 22 hectares (55 acres). Founded by Jennie and Robert Pim Butchart in the early 1900s, this privately owned horticultural landmark remains in family hands to this day. In 2004, the gardens were designated a National Historic Site of Canada, marking a century of botanical excellence.
In spring, vibrant tulips, daffodils and hyacinths burst into bloom, filling the air with fragrance. In summer, more than 900 varieties of annuals and perennials, including stately delphiniums, dominate the landscapes. The Rose Garden offers a fragrant spectacle of over 250 rose varieties, while Perennial Borders and subtle accents highlight the late summer show. In autumn, Japanese maples and other foliage transform into a palette of russet, gold and scarlet. And in winter, the gardens awaken under twinkling lights and festive themes during the Magic of Christmas celebration.
Visitors can enjoy the Rose Carousel, stroll among themed gardens (Sunken Garden, Japanese Garden, Italian Garden, Mediterranean Garden), shop at the Seed & Gift store, or dine in one of our restaurants. In the summer, enjoy Night Illuminations, fireworks and live music on select evenings. Visit butchartgardens.com for a complete list of seasonal events, dining menus and hours or operations.
