ITSAZOO presents a gripping world premiere, “Sunrise Betties,” inspired by the dark and forgotten history of East Vancouver. Running from February 21 to March 10, 2024, at The Russian Hall’s basement (600 Campbell Street), this production delves into the city’s murky past. Playwright-in-Residence Cheyenne Rouleau crafts a fictional narrative around an all-female gang during Vancouver’s 1972 street gang crisis. Directed by local luminary Jamie King, the play promises to transport audiences back 50 years to a once-infamous East Vancouver neighborhood. Amidst clashes for drug trade control, police corruption, and lurking danger, the show delivers an immersive experience.
