Trio Seoul stands out as one of the Vancouver Chamber Music Society’s most anticipated programs in the 2023/24 Delta Series. Formed in 2022 by Kyu Yeon Kim, Jinjoo Cho, and Brannon Cho, Trio Seoul aims to unite the talents of three accomplished 21st-century musicians. Together, they have earned over 20 international competition awards and recognitions. Seoul, their hometown, serves as a vibrant inspiration for their artistic endeavors, a theme they celebrate in February’s program.
In this performance, Anton Arensky’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D Major incorporates Korean folk melodies, reflecting the historical context of Japan’s invasion of Korea. Additionally, Trio Seoul commissioned Korean composer Uzong Choe to create “Scattered Dreams” as a complementary piece to Arensky’s trio. The result is a captivating blend of minimalist interpretation and post-modern expression of traditional folk tunes.
