Premier Listings for the Strait of Georgia
The Strait of Georgia, or the Georgia Strait, is a strait between Vancouver Island and the mainland coast of British Columbia. It is approximately 240 kilometres (150 miles) long and varies in width from 18.5km to 55 km (11.5 to 34.2 miles). Archipelagos and narrow channels mark each end of the Strait of Georgia, the BC Gulf Islands and the US San Juan Islands in the south, and the BC Discovery Islands in the north.
The main channels to the south of Georgia Strait are Haro Strait and Rosario Strait, which connect the Strait of Georgia to the Strait of Juan de Fuca, which separates Vancouver Island from the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State in the US. In the north, Discovery Passage is the main channel connecting the Strait of Georgia to Johnstone Strait. The term Gulf of Georgia is also used, and refers to the entire region, and includes all those waters and shores not touched by the Strait of Georgia proper.
