Location: Victoria International Airport is located 18 km north of Victoria, near the town of Sidney on the Saanich Peninsula.
Flight delayed? Need some exercise?: Flight Path is a 9.3-km paved walking, running and biking trail around Victoria International Airport. The three-metre-wide path borders the airport lands and connects with West Saanich Road and Ocean Avenue along the Patricia Bay Highway, as well as Beacon Avenue into downtown Sidney. Those out for exercise will be able to see ocean and mountain views from the path, and watch anything from a 737 to a military helicopter or small flight-school aircraft take off.
McTavish Interchange: Visitors arriving in Victoria by air will be involuntarily treated to Victoria’s newest and most challenging amusement park. Completed in 2011, and quietly opened without fanfare – no politician claimed ownership of this one – the McTavish Interchange will challenge the most alert of drivers, so be prepared for the ride. If you don’t want to spend your first day in Victoria going round in circles, a Video Animation produced by the BC Ministry of Transportation demonstrates how to navigate the McTavish Road Interchange from the various approaches. The need for the video, and the politicians doing their best ‘speak no evil, see no evil, hear no evil’, monkey impression, is evidence enough that this doozie is no ordinary interchange. Good luck, and have fun.
