Cominco Gardens are the only formal gardens in the Kootenay Rockies region of British Columbia. Set against a serene backdrop in Kimerley, and known as the Gem of the Kootenays, the 3-acre gardens produce more than 45,000 flowers annually, combining formal and informal beds, and containing more than 100 memorial roses.

Visitors can enjoy the famous giant dahlias, also known as dinner-plate dahlias, the extensive display of perennials that includes Canterbury bells and foxglove, as well as the collection of over 16,000 annuals.

Named after the local mining company, Cominco Gardens were originally developed in 1927 as a gift to the community of Kimberley, as well as a promotion of Cominco’s Elephant brand of fertilizer.

The best months to visit this tranquil setting are June, July and August. The popular attraction is located adjacent to the Kimberley Health Care Centre, off 4th Avenue, just 5 minutes from downtown Kimberley.

Admission by donation.
