Premier Listings for Mt. Washington Ski Resort
Mount Washington has long been known for having good snow conditions from early in winter to well past Easter. This accounts, in part, for Mt Washington being the second-busiest winter recreation destination in BC, behind Whistler Blackcomb.
Mt. Washington Alpine Resort offers something for everyone, featuring an average snowfall of 10.5 metres (35 feet), 60 marked runs, cross-country skiing, snow camping, snowshoeing trails, and two terrain parks. Mt Washington also offers lift-accessed and night-lit snow tubing.
The expanded night terrain at Mount Washington Alpine Resort provides the perfect evening venue for intermediate and advanced riders by bathing the popular run Coaster, and the Stomping Ground Terrain Park in night light to provide expanded night skiing. The resort lights up the Whisky Jack Chair, which gives two full night runs from Mount Washington’s alpine to the base lodge. The Stomping Ground Terrain Park will be night-lit as well. Night operations run Thursday through to Saturday nights, plus every day over holiday periods.
A great deal of Mount Washington’s charm comes from its location. On a clear day, visitors look out across the Strait of Georgia at a panorama of the Sunshine Coast, from Powell River to Sechelt, with the peaks of the Coast Mountains rising in a long march behind. Closer at hand, the many peaks adorning Strathcona Park’s Forbidden Plateau region look suitably magnificent.
The Stomping Ground Terrain Park is Mount Washington’s premier advanced-level terrain park, and one of the breeding grounds for BC’s best riders.
More space between the trees! There’s no question, Mount Washington is home to some of the sweetest tree riding on the planet. Things get even better this year with extensive glading on the south side of the mountain – in a zone adjacent to the Hawk Six Pack Chair.
For those looking for an idyllic business retreat or conference location, Mount Washington provides a fine range of meeting and banquet rooms. The latest addition to the resort’s conference room line-up is the Alpine Lodge’s Whisky Jack room. The room offers Yellow Cedar wainscoting and state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment.
Visitors can arrange to stay in either the on-hill accommodations or in the nearby Comox Valley. Mount Washington has an annual attendance of over 400,000 guests, and the village has a capacity to house 3,500 guests. Many Comox Valley hotels, motels, resorts and B & B’s offer special ski packages during the winter months. If you’re not into driving, shuttle buses to the mountain run from a number of hotels in Courtenay. You’ll find just about everything you need on the mountain, including a restaurant, lounge, shops, equipment rentals, lessons and even a Kid’s Zone.
Mt. Washington Ski Resort is located 20 miles (32 km) northwest of Courtenay on Vancouver Island. With the new Inland Island Highway and paved Strathcona Parkway to Mount Washington, travelling time from Victoria is between 3 and 4 hours, ddepending on weather and timing. Please note that Strathcona Parkway requires good winter tires OR that you carry chains with you for use if conditions require.
The Comox Valley and Campbell River Airports are serviced daily by Pacific Coastal Airlines and Air Canada. WestJet flies directly from Calgary and Edmonton to Comox, and HeliJet offers a direct service from Seattle to Campbell River. And if you’re getting here by ferry, the Nanaimo ferry terminals are serviced from Horseshoe Bay and Tsawwassen on the Lower Mainland.
