Located near majestic steeples and not far from Lake Koocanusa, the small community of Jaffray is waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. Jaffray is found on Highway 3/93, northwest of the Elko junction, north of the Canadian/United States border at Rooseville.
The community is in a local area called the “South Country”, which includes the communities of Elko, Jaffray, Baynes Lake, Wardner, Newgate, Galloway, and Grasmere.
This portion of the Rocky Mountain Trench is relatively flat, with open woodland and grasslands, and is known for its great recreational opportunities.
Location: Jaffray is located on Highway 3/93 in the BC Rockies, 30 miles (48 km) southwest of Fernie, 33 miles (53 km) southeast of Cranbrook, and 37 miles (59 km) northwest of the Canadian-USA border crossing at Roosville.
Fishing: Jaffray’s close proximity to the Bull River and Kootenay River provides for magnificent fishing and water-related recreation.
Skiing: Winter visitors to Jaffray are in close proximity to excellent skiing. Fernie lies nestled in the Elk Valley and is another of British Columbia’s legendary ski areas. The Fernie Alpine Resort gets heaped with snow and is renowned for its fabulous powder conditions.
Snowmobiling: The area north of Jaffray around Tie Lake and both east and west of Little Sand Creek offers good snowmobiling terrain.
Kikomun Creek Provincial Park is located on the eastern shores of Lake Koocanusa, to the south of Jaffray. Fishing and easygoing hiking are two good reasons to camp here.
Camping: Good forest recreation sites are located on Wapiti Lake, Sand Lake and North Star Lake.

Farmers’ Market: Check out the home-grown and baked goods at the Jaffray & Baynes Lake Farmers’ Market at the Baynes Lake Community Centre on Saturday mornings in summer (mid June to early September, 9:00am to 12:30pm). Forty vendors sell arts & crafts, baked goods, plants, and fruit and vegetables.
