Premier Listings for Gibson Marine Park

Gibson Marine Provincial Park is located on the south side of Flores Island, on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

The park is located immediately south of the Nuu-chah-nulth community of Ahousat. The traditional territory of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nation covers most of the west coast of Vancouver Island.

A trail from Matilda Inlet provides access to Ahousat Hot Springs, which are considered to be of therapeutic value, and a primitive trail connects the springs area with the broad sandy beach at Whitesand Cove.

An attraction of Flores Island is the Ahousat Wild Side Heritage Trail, a 32-km round trip wilderness hike from the Nuu-chah-nulth village of Ahousat (population 400) across the slopes of Mount Flores to the pristine beaches along the southern and western shores of the island. For centuries Native Indians had used this trail to reach the wild beaches on the west side of the island. This vital route has now been restored as a magnificent hiking trail through ancient Sitka Spruce forests.

Backcountry walk-in camping is provided in Gibson Marine Provincial Park, but no other facilities are provided.

People come from around the world to kayak and camp in remote Clayoquot Sound, and enjoy the sandy beaches, scenery and wildlife. Local tour companies offer trips into this area, and kayak rentals are available in Tofino.

The nearest boat launch is the Fourth Street Dock in Tofino. Boaters can find sheltered anchorage in Matilda Inlet, adjacent to Gibson Marine Provincial Park.

Gibson Marine Provincial Park is adjacent to Flores Island Provincial Park on Flores Island on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. To access the park, take a one-hour boat ride northwest from Tofino to Ahousaht Village. Boaters will find a sheltered anchorage in Matilda Inlet, entered from Russell Channel.
