This part of the world was opened for farming in the 1860s to provide fresh produce for the burgeoning population of gold miners and attendant settlers in the nearby Victoria region. As such, the natural ambience here remains rather pastoral.
This small wildlife sanctuary, tucked between Metchosin farmlands, features mixed woodlands along a winding creek, and Sherwood Pond, an important staging area for migratory birds.
Despite the absence of marshland, many of the migratory birds seen at Witty’s Lagoon Regional Park also use this park as a staging area, including sandpipers, turnstones, and surfbirds, all of which work the beach for all it’s worth.

Park facilities include bridle trails and hiking trails, an information kiosk, a picnic area and toilets.
Devonian Regional Park is located off William Head Road in Metchosin, in the Western Communities region of Victoria on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.
