The 100-hectare Painted Bluffs Provincial Park protects an area of geological significance on the shores of Kamloops Lake. The interesting feature giving the park its name can be seen on from several viewpoints across Kamloops Lake. Fluvial fans cross the low-lying landscape, giving rise to sage and bluebunch wheatgrass.
The park is noted for its populations of California bighorn sheep. Historic mine sites and native copper diggings still exist within the park, as well as remnants of the Hudson’s Bay Company Fur Brigade Trail, which crossed the northeast corner en route to Carabine Creek.
There are no facilities at this park. If you plan on canoeing or kayaking, launching would have to take place from Savona. Waterskiing and power boating opportunities are available on Kamloops Lake. There is a boat launch in the community of Savona, located at the west end of Kamloops Lake. Fishing is allowed from the foreshore of this park on Kamloops Lake. Anyone fishing or angling in British Columbia must have an appropriate licence.
Painted Bluffs Provincial Park is located in the Thompson region of British Columbia, 21 miles (34 km) west of Kamloops. Access to the park is via Sabiston Road west of Savona.
