Open May to September, Conkle Lake Provincial Park, about 30 km west of Greenwood, can be reached by three different routes. However, all three are over rough, narrow, winding roads not suitable for motor homes, low-clearance vehicles, or towed trailers.
Named for an early settler in the nearby Kettle River Valley, W.H. Conkle, this secluded park is a perfect place for a quiet vacation. It features 34 vehicle/tent sites set in a forest of western larch, lodgepole pine, alder, and willow, and is a favourite with sunbathers, swimmers, and anglers.
There are 2 group campsites at this park as well as walk-in camping above the day-use area. There are five picnic tables, one pit toilet and a central fire pit. The area is open and natural with no tent pads and is surrounded by dense young forest with a few mature trees. There is room for 5-10 tents. Fees are collected from May to September, the campground is open in off season, but no fees and no services.
Conkle Lake is a bit of a trek to reach, but once there you’ll find good car-top-boat fishing for rainbow trout in an idyllic setting. It’s so quiet here that you’d think it was a library. Swimming is a favourite activity at Conkle Lake, where there is a beach.
The park is reached by travelling about 16 km on a gravel access road from Highway 33 near Westbridge; 26 km on a gravel access road from Highway 3 near Bridesville; or 35 km on a gravel access road from Highway 97 near Okanagan Falls.
