Premier Listings for Mansons Landing Park

Located on Cortes Island, off the east coast of Vancouver Island, the 100-hectare Mansons Landing Provincial Park fronts on both Hague Lake and Manson Bay.

You can spend an afternoon exploring the lagoon by dinghy or enjoy either a freshwater or ocean swim along the magnificent sand beaches. Hague Lake can be visited by a fifteen-minute walk south from the government float at Mansons Landing.

This park offers a few informal hiking and walking trails, as well as beach walks. A short trail extends from the sand spit at Mansons Lagoon to the local school (approximately 1 km). Another short trail with steep sections runs from Hague Lake around the perimeter of the lagoon to the sand spit (approximately 1 km).

Kayaking and canoeing is possible in Hague Lake or within Mansons Lagoon at high tide. Paddlers can set in at the natural boat launch on the west side of the spit at Mansons Lagoon. Motorboats are not permitted on Hague Lake.

Look for a petroglyph of a 3-metre fish carved into a granite boulder near the shore between Manson’s Landing and Smelt Bay, as well as petroglyphs on the rock face at the entrance to nearby Gorge Harbour.

Amenities are available at Manson’s Landing, Squirrel Cove and Gorge Harbour. Camping is available at nearby Smelt Bay Provincial Park. The government float provides temporary moorage space for visiting boats and floatplanes. Manson Bay provides good anchorage in sheltered weather, with fair protection available behind Cat and Sheep Islands. Boaters approaching Mansons Landing from the south or rounding Sutil Point should take care to avoid the reef which extends out from the west side of the point.

To get to Cortes Island, catch a ferry from Campbell River to Quathiaski Cove on Quadra Island. Drive north to Heriot Bay and catch a second ferry to Whaletown on Cortes Island. Follow Whaletown Road, Gorge Harbour Road, Seaford Road and then travel north on Sutil Point Road into the park.

In 1987 we built our off-grid kayaking lodge in the Discovery Islands with a dream of crafting life-changing multi-day sea kayaking experiences. We still live where we paddle, and our passion for exploring our remote corner of British Columbia has only grown stronger.

Guided trips combine skills instruction, wilderness adventure, and meals prepared from our own garden produce, local sea foods, and home baking. Our kayaking tours explore sheltered routes amid marine parks, abundant wildlife, and rainforest islands – all with spectacular views of the highest peaks of the rugged Coast Mountains.
