Thurston Bay Marine Provincial Park surrounds Thurston Bay on Sonora Island, at the junction of Johnstone Strait and Discovery Passage.
Within close proximity to this undeveloped 389-hectare park, the rocky shoreline yields numerous small inviting beaches, and a pleasant walk along an unkept trail leads to freshwater Florence Lake.
Carry your fishing gear, as the remote lake reportedly offers great cutthroat trout fishing.
Hiking from the park is rewarded with exceptional views in all directions from atop Mount Tucker – elevation 836 metres.
Kayakers can explore Cameleon Harbour, Handfield Bay, Anchorage Lagoon, Block Island and a number of other interesting coves and islets in the vicinity of Thurston Bay.
Boats anchor at the head of Thurston Bay and in the secluded lagoon at the south end of Thurston Bay. Boats pass east of Tully Island to anchor in 12-14′ of water in the southern part of the park, Hanfield Bay.
Random wilderness camping is allowed. No facilities are provided at the park.
Thurston Bay Marine Provincial Park is located on Sonora Island, at the junction of Johnstone Strait and Discovery Passage, between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia. Access to Thurston Bay is by private boat only, from Campbell River on Vancouver Island and Quadra Island in the Discovery Islands.
