Premier Listings for Spider Lake Park
Spider Lake Provincial Park encompasses Spider Lake and its shoreline, west of Parksville on Vancouver Island. This quiet and peaceful park is a day-use only recreation area.
The 65-hectare park is a great place for a family outing, with the warm water lake being noted for its excellent swimming, canoeing and kayaking potential. Paddlers can spend a peaceful afternoon exploring the shoreline and the many secluded bays. Shaded lakeside trails and a lovely sandy beach make Spider Lake a favoured destination.
Spider Lake (57 hectares) contains smallmouth bass, which provide year round fishing. The lake is also stocked with both steelhead and rainbow trout that provide plenty of excitement on a fly or light tackle. Powerboats are prohibited on the lake, but small cartoppers can be launched from the beach beside the parking lot.
Nearby Horne Lake provides good fishing year-round for rainbow and cutthroat trout, steelhead and kokanee. Full boat launch facilities are available at the private campsite near the west end of Horne Lake.
Spider Lake Park is wheelchair accessible. This park has a large day-use/picnic area, with approximately 16 picnic tables, fresh water, 5 pit toilets and a sandy beach. This area and the parking lot is closed from October 16 to May 14 of each year.
A smaller day-use area, open year round, can be found off Lakeview Road less than 1 km before the main park entrance. This area has two picnic tables, a pit toilet and parking for up to 8 vehicles. Small boats, canoes and kayaks can be easily launched from this location.
The nearest campsite is a private campground adjacent to Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park.
Spider Lake Provinvial Park is located 10 miles (16 km) west of Qualicum Beach, 5 miles (8 km) west of Highway 19 on Horne Lake Road and Spider Lake Road (both gravel). Follow the signs to Horne Lake Caves off the highway.
