Premier Listings for Aldergrove

South of the Fraser River and directly west of Abbotsford, Aldergrove takes its name from the lush growth of alder trees in the area, although fields upon fields of farmland attest to the growth of more than just trees. Like neighbouring Abbotsford, Aldergrove is also home to vast crops of strawberries and raspberries.

While a peaceful and friendly community today, Aldergrove was once home to Canada’s first and most famous train robber, Bill Miner (known by the Mounties, and much later, Hollywood as the Grey Fox). Though a masterful and elusive ne’er-do-well, the Grey Fox was eventually brought to justice in 1906 by local resident brothers, Duncan and Robert Shortread.

Location: Aldergrove is located on the Trans-Canada Highway 1 between Langley and Abbotsford, 37 miles (59 km) east of Vancouver.

Cranberries: You’ve eaten them at Thanksgiving – now come see how they’re harvested! Huge, hip-deep pools of crimson cranberries are one of the more unusual and beautiful sights in the area. Contact a local producer during harvest-time and arrange a tour that you will not forget soon.

Greater Vancouver Zoo: Go Wild…go to the Zoo! Enjoy an affordable and enjoyable family outing to the Greater Vancouver Zoological Centre, in 264th Street in Aldergrove. Enter the fascinating world of over 200 species of wild animals, including lions, tigers, bears, rhino, giraffe and more. Set on 120 scenic acres of lush farmland and forests, attractions include a children’s play area, the Safari Express Train, the North American Wilds Safari Bus Tour and beautiful picnic grounds.

Hot Air Balloon Rides: Up, up and away! If you’ve never taken a ride in a hot air balloon, this is the place to do it. Temperate weather and spectacular views make Aldergrove a choice location for Balloon Tours. This is one of the best ways for visitors to see and appreciate the size and importance of the Lower Fraser Valley.

Heritage Buildings: Visit the first Customs House in the area, at 3236 274th Street, and the D.W. Poppy Homestead at 248th and 40th Street.

Golf: Neighbouring Langley and Abbotsford offer a number of golfing options: Abbotsford has 2 courses; Fraser Glen Golf Course is a fun and challenging mid-length, 18-hole, Par-62 golf course located just off the Trans Canada Highway. The flat, tree-lined fairways make for an easy walk, yet the greens are well bunkered, making the course a challenge for golfers of all levels. Ledgeview Golf & Country Club on the west-facing side of McKee Peak in the north east corner of Abbotsford features one of the most challenging and enjoyable 18 holes of golf in the Fraser Valley. The Par 70, Les Furber designed championship course provides rolling fairways and panoramic views of the north shore mountains.

Langley offers a few courses: Newlands Golf & Racquet Club is a challenging 18-hole, par-72 championship golf course featuring tree-lined fairways, extensive rock walls, and some of the Fraser Valley’s most memorable golf holes; Tall Timbers Golf Course is a family owned and operated 18-hole public golf course that has been serving golfers of any age in the Langley area for over 20 years; The Redwoods Golf Course provides the effect of playing golf in a forest. The canopy of trees have created a natural reverb chamber, amplifying the song of the over sixty species of birds that call the course home (18 holes, par 71, 6,162 yards); and Belmont Golf Course offers excellent year-round course conditions and may be enjoyed by golfers of all levels of ability. Set in the tranquil serenity of the Fraser Valley, Belmont plays to a par 70 at 6,416 yards from the championship blue tees, to as short as 4,951 yards from the gold tees (18 Holes, par 70). Vancouver Golf Vacations.

Paved shoulders on the Langley backroads around Aldergrove Lake Regional Park provide the extended length that you wish you could find everywhere for cycling and in-line skating. They are wide and smooth and, best of all, there is only a hint of traffic along most of the route. As you ride or skate along, you can relax and let your eyes drink in the views of the surrounding farm fields with Mount Baker towering over them. A note of caution: Although you can in-line skate in the park, a steep hill dropping down to the lake will prove too challenging for novice skaters. When measured by the amount of fun that trail riding provides, the diminutive park outperforms its size. A network of easygoing mountain biking trails, about 7 miles (12 km) in total length, lead through the wooded park. Mount Baker’s snow cone towers above the valley and is best appreciated when seen from a viewpoint along the Rock N’ Horse Trail.
